SHC 2014 Keynote Preview

The 3rd annual SHC Conference is being held in the largest solar thermal market in the world, China.  SHC 2014 is a tremendous opportunity to meet leading researchers from around the world and see how solar thermal is being deployed in the Chinese market.  The local conference host is the China Academy of Building Research, which sets the standards for solar thermal manufacturing and installation in China.  

SHC is the annual scientific conference on solar thermal technologies and solar buildings organized by the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme in cooperation with solar industry associations around the world.

A key theme for SHC 2014 is the broad use of solar thermal from residential solar hot water, district and industry heating, and building-integrated architectural applications.  Keynote speakers from across the sector have been invited to share their views on the global solar thermal market in the following topics:

Anselm Eisentraut provides an outlook on medium-term market developments for renewable heat, with a focus on solar thermal, based on the IEA's Medium-Term Renewable Energy Market Report 2014.

Werner Weiss, AEE INTEC, Austria
Werner Weiss presents the results of the 2014 IEA SHC report “Solar heat worldwide – markets, environmental effects and new promising applications”. The presentation highlights current developments in the different solar thermal markets worldwide, and provides an overview on applications ranging from small-scale residential systems to MW range systems for industrial applications. Environmental effects and cost figures are also presented.

Les Nelson presents work on Global Certification of Solar Collectors and Systems.  Over the last 18 months, representatives of numerous countries around the world have been developing the framework for a harmonized certification scheme which is designed to be used globally.  This presentation explores the various elements of the global certification scheme.

Ken Guthrie outlines the latest developments in International Standards relevant to solar heating and cooling.

Tao He presents an analysis on solar heating and cooling applications in a climate zone with very hot summers and very cold winters.  From an economic and energy saving analysis, solar heating and cooling systems can be a reasonable substitute to conventional systems in buildings.

Runqing Hu, Energy Research Institute, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China
Runqing Hu provides an overview of Chinese renewable energy development and trends, including status, target and policy strategy, and market potential.  The role of solar thermal in Chinese energy market and policy, as well as technology and market road maps for solar thermal are presented.

Guangming Xie
, China Solar Thermal Industry Federation (CSTIF), China
Guangming Xie reviews the development of the Chinese solar thermal industry. With over 20 years of development, the solar thermal industry has made significant achievements. The production volume and installed capacity of solar water heating systems in 2012 were respectively 64 million m2 and 258 million m2, accounting for about 80% and 60% of the world’s total.

Wei Xu summarizes and analyzes the technologies used in nearly zero energy buildings in China. The technology roadmap to achieve nZEB with the comprehensive technology integration of passive design, high performance insulation and energy system, energy production system are proposed.

Alessandra Scognamiglio presents an investigation on the use of solar energy in our living environment, at the architectural scale, as well as at the landscape scale. Concepts and visions, related to new sustainable energy landscapes will be proposed, with the aim to help to build up a new trans-disciplinary design vision for solar energy, able to meet energy and cultural needs of our time and societies.

Christoph Brunner provides an overview on the most recent research activities of process collector technology, as well as solar thermal system integration into industrial production processes.  These newest scientific developments will be combined with experience from installed solar systems.

Jan Erik Nielsen describes the booming market for solar district heating in Denmark and the reasons behind this development, and how to transfer experience to other countries.

Halime Paksoy, Turkish Çukurova University, Turkey
Halime Paksoy presents current trends in energy supply and use that show that we are tracking the IEA 6°C Scenario (6DS). Energy storage technologies are the central component of any system that can create a shift to the 2°C Scenario (2DS). The status of R&D and future trends of thermal energy storage is the focus of this talk.

Dave Renné, Dave Renne Renewables, USA
Dave Renné focuses on the work underway in the IEA/SHC Task 46 titled Solar Resource Assessment and Forecasting, and how the information in this task is currently and will be used by developers, utilities, and researchers to support large scale solar energy development around the world.

SHC 2014 –第三届国际太阳能供热制冷大会内容介绍

第三届国际太阳能供热制冷大会(以下简称SHC 2014)将于今年在北京举行。该会议已于2012年在美国旧金山,2013年在德国弗莱堡成功举办了两届。本届国际太阳能供热制冷大会(SHC 2014)将由中国建筑科学研究院承办,在国家会议中心召开。

SHC 2014由国际能源署太阳能供热制冷委员会(IEA-SHC Programme)主办。国际能源署太阳能供热制冷委员会成立于1977年,是国际能源署成立最早的能源技术专业委员会之一,致力于全方位推广太阳能热利用技术的应用。

2012年,中国正式加入国际能源署太阳能供热制冷委员会,成为这一享有国际声望组织的第21个成员国。经科技部批准,中国建筑科学研究院担任国际能源署太阳能供热制冷委员会的中国国家代表单位,中国建筑科学研究院国家太阳能热水器质量监督检验中心(北京)副主任何涛和副总工程师张昕宇作为中国代表担任太阳能供热制冷委员会执行委员会委员。
